AI disclosure deadlines: 2 August 2026
On 2 August 2026, the EU AI Act transparency duties (Article 50) and California's AI Transparency Act (SB 942) both become enforceable. Sites that use AI need their disclosures in place by that date. Several other countries already require disclosure now.
What changes on 2 August 2026
In the European Union, Article 50 requires AI-interaction notices, machine-readable marking of synthetic media, notices for emotion-recognition and biometric systems, and deepfake labeling. In California, SB 942 requires large generative-AI providers to embed latent disclosure, offer a visible label, and provide a free detection tool for AI image, video, and audio.
Already in force
China, Italy, New York, South Korea, India, Texas, and Utah have disclosure duties today. See the law directory for the cited requirement and date for each.
